Other Tools for On-the-Go Support

Last week we talked about how you can use the skills of reflection and reframing to bring yourself from awareness to action. This can be done in solo work, as the blog served that purpose, but also 1:1 in a coaching session with me. I have used these skills throughout my life and it has brought forward dramatic and subtle shifts in my life, which is why I know it can be done for you too.

I want to share with you a few more tools to support you on your journey. There are many more but we will focus on my go-to’s: mindfulness, embodiment, affirmations, mantras, journal prompts, mindful breathing, and meditation.

Let's dive right into the tools:

  1. Mindfulness - is to be present in the moment and the awareness of that

For example, living in the present moment and in your body rather than overthinking and listening to your inner critic.

  1. Embodiment - to act “as if”

For example, act as if you already were where you wanted to be, had the position you wanted, or reaching your goal.

  1. Affirmations - positive words to redirect the current way of negative thinking

For example, “I am” statements that support you when you are not feeling as positively about yourself. (There are many ways to use affirmations to support you.)

  1. Mantras - similar to affirmations; however, this is a phrase that is short but powerful as it gives you the power you need to push forward

For example, maybe it is a phrase a loved one said to support you or something you heard in your favorite movie or book. (Again, there are many ways and uses of mantras.)

  1. Journal Prompts - this is a skill for those who struggle with free writing and need questions that evoke a deeper was of thinking

For example, what are you currently doing to support your goals, what is/isnt working as you are working towards those goals, and what haven’t you tried yet that you could not bring into your life?

  1. Mindful Breathing - we often overlook how powerful breathwork is, which is why it is the quickest and simplest tool to use; with eyes open or closed, focus on your breath (inhale and outhale as counting can support the breathwork further).

  2. Meditation - meditation is more than just sitting in silence focusing on a item; it just means when you are in a consistent flow state with ease.

For example, my form of meditation always involved movement - dancing, skating, walking, dancing, etc. I get my body moving and solely focus on that movement.
