Brain Dump: Dream, Create, & Build A Life You Love

Updated: Aug 17, 2022

Brain Dumping? Get your thoughts out of your head! How do we do that? Journal time! Get the thoughts out and onto paper! I mean here I am right now, literally doing that right now sharing with you.

Let us begin…

Something we have worked on in almost every blog has included some type of reflection and journaling is my favorite. We talked about it a lot last week but I will say it again, Journaling means you physically write down thoughts on your own or by following a prompt. It draws out your thoughts from the deepest parts you may have not been aware of yet. It takes a consistent flow of writing for you to connect to your subconscious and allow the judgment to leave. Try setting a timer when free writing.

Examples: (Prompt Inquiries for Brainstorming)

  • What tool or technique would support you? Manage yourself by picking what tools will or will not work for you, making them more of your own.

  • What tool or technique is missing? Get creative and think of other things that will ground you.

  • What is something you have not tried yet? Do not stick to the things you know. Step outside of your comfort zone and try something new.

Set aside a certain amount of time and try journaling with or without a prompt for that entire time. For example, set a timer for thirty minutes and allow yourself that entire time to write with no distractions. The impactful reflections will usually come after you are in a flow state and fully present with yourself as you write. Force yourself to stay present and write during the time you select. Remember that starting small and working up to a longer time is the first step. Start with five minutes then slowly increase the time by five more minutes as you go on. This however does not mean you have to restrict yourself to that time, you can write beyond that but not less than.

If journaling isn’t your thing, get to creating. Get the creative juices going and create something that represents your dreams and goals for your life. Visualization is used as a physical or imaginative representation of goals, values, or other things of importance.

Examples:

  • Quote/image as a screensaver

  • Vision board – Become clear on your goals and dreams. Make a vision board to highlight your needs, wants, and dreams so that they can become clear. Put everything in one area and think of what YOU want with your life. Find or create a symbol, character, movie, song, or book that could serve as a reminder to support you during your journey. You need to visualize that you already have the life you desire. How would you think, act, and be if you were that person? You need to connect yourself from who you are to who you want to be.

There are many apps now that can walk you through visualization, but my favorite will always be the ones that “get your hands dirty.” Creating a vision board takes you physically through the experience, and as you do that it is important to notice what feelings come up during the process.
