Peoples Impact: Fear and Coping Mechanisms. How do people impact you?

Updated: Apr 22, 2022

Last month we learned about all of the things that go into the makeup of relationships: setting intentions, the law of attraction, manifestation, and boundaries. Now my hope is that you have a better understanding of each so that this week you can really focus on the relationship you have built and continue to build. I want you to have people in your life who allow you the space to be your most authentic self and support you in doing so. Let’s dive right in…

Peoples Impact:

Fear and Coping Mechanisms

There are all types of people in this world from personalities, to make up, geography, ethnicity, and all around each are special in their own way. I love that. I love seeing the differences as much as I love seeing the similarities. At the core, we all want the same thing - love - however some of us lose sight of that due to traumas experienced. So where do you fall?

*Journaling is recommended for any questions listed below*

  • Are you connected more to love or hate?

  • How are the people around you connected to love?

  • Do the people in your life have the same values as you?

  • How do you show up and communicate in the relationship with the people in your life?

  • How do the people support you and push you to be your best?

Whether you want to admit it or not, the people you surround yourself with impact you and are a reflection of you. You attract people who are like you as they attract you to them as a reflection. So, who is in your circle?

More times than not, we are not aware of how much we are impacted during our fundamental years. I mean how can we when we were still so young. Now, being much more experienced, you probably have a decent amount of experience under your belt, but have you done the work with your inner child? You know the one that was left behind when fear was introduced? The child who had to create new coping mechanisms to survive.

Let me tell you that the coping mechanisms you learned as a child no longer will serve you as a teen and the ones you learned as a teen will no longer serve you as a young adult and so forth. You see we stay holding onto the coping mechanisms we learned because they are what feel safe and letting go of them may be scary, but the other side is always greener. When you acknowledge what you learned to “survive” the state you once were in, only then will you be able to let go and grow.

So let's bring the focus back to the people in your environment. These people have made an impact on you - good or bad - each came for a purpose being to teach you a lesson. Every person you come into contact with was meant for you both to learn something from the experience.

  • Do you keep bringing in the same type of people who seem to cause you harm - physical or mental?

  • What is the root here? Remember it could go back years!

  • What is at the root of these relationships?

  • What keeps coming up for you?

  • What is the overall theme?

I challenge you to evaluate the people you have in your life and make the decision to nourish or release the relationships you have. It is okay to outgrow people. It is okay if you no longer feel aligned with someone in your life. You can make the choice on where they can stand in your life… I learned this method on a podcast I was listening to and it changed my life:

Where does the person and relationship stand in your life?

  • Bedroom - inner circle friends

  • Living room - close friends

  • Front door - surface friends

  • Sidewalk - know but not close, acquaintances

Now evaluate, what friends stand where in your life?

I only hope for you to make the conscious choice of who gets to be in your life because YOU ARE SPECIAL and deserve to be treated like you are special. Now go out into the world and attract your people to you by being your most authentic self.
