How to take back the power with your mindset?

Mindset - Take control of how you think


Last month we learned about all of the things that go into the makeup of self: people impact and influence, limiting beliefs, self-inventory - reflection & discovery, and your mission - passion &purpose.. Now my hope is that you have a better understanding of each so that this week you can really focus on how to get control of your mindset but working out and growing your mental muscles. I want you to have all the strength to be able to shift your mindset whenever you find yourself being controlled by fear. Let’s begin by looking at what was learned over time and work on how to re-learn that way of thinking…

There are a lot of things that we all get taught growing up is the “right” way of doing things. Let me straight up with you, not everything that works for others is going to work for you. Everyone is different and unique in their own way. It is unfair to think that anyone is better than another when we all have different backgrounds, make up, beliefs, and styles of how we do things.


STOP COMPARING YOURSELF TO OTHERS!


The only person who ever should compare yourself to is who you were yesterday. That gives you the opportunity to choose differently today - in the moment - and learn or evolve from what was once done. Or maybe you are repeating what was done because it is what works for you.


We are going to dive even deeper into some of the beliefs that you were taught growing up and then we will work to shift the perspective to allow space and room for growth and learning:

*Journaling is recommended for any questions listed below*


  1. What beliefs have you been taught about: religion, race, gender, sex, education, politics, relationships, elders, respect, boundaries, or whatever other beliefs came into your life.

  2. I want you to evaluate each topic by making two columns for each (one for what you were TAUGHT and one where you EXPERIENCED what felt right - they can be different or the same).

  3. Now from each column take the beliefs and write out when the belief was first introduced.

  4. Then evaluate what does/doesn’t feel right about that belief:

  • What beliefs come from fear and then formed coping mechanisms?

  • What coping mechanism are you holding onto that are no longer in service for you at this point of your life?

  • How can you let go of these coping mechanisms?

  • What beliefs come from love?

  • How can you lean more into the beliefs coming from love?

  • How can you bring the love perspective into others beliefs?

  • What have you not yet explored or discovered?

  • How can you lean into curiosity more?

  • How can you embody openness?

  1. Allow time and space to do, feel, and be throughout and after you do this work. Do not judge yourself and give time for the flow of consciousness to connect to your mind, body, and soul. Give yourself a tight squeeze and place your hand on your heart to feel the connection with your most authentic self strengthen.


I hope this exercise resonated with you and gave your the opportunity to look a little deeper within self and the programming that was existing within you. How do you feel after evaluating what was learned and programmed within you? How can you care for the parts that you are letting go of and that are now open wounds?
